Japanese can be funny about having their photo taken. Oftentimes they object with a hand waving motion in front of their face, and yet other times they are very friendly and have no problem at all smiling for the camera. These girls were with a large group of young people in Naha celebrating Coming of Age Day this past January, and were happy to pose for me.

This is a shot I took a while back with my Fuji X-Pro1 and 56mm f/1.2 lens of a traditional Okinawan dancer performance. Shot at f/1.2 it shows the really nice bokeh the Fuji 56mm delivers. I love the Fuji colors too.

Smartphones have come a long way in the last couple years. They are increasingly more amazing at shooting our day-to-day for our social media feeds, but they are also being used more and more by professional photographers as another creative tool on their belts. Although limited to closeups and tight headshot this is a great way to achieve the high-key lighting look. Shoot lighter and still achieve great results.
