Three Reasons Why the Apple Watch will be Successful

See this content in the original post

In 2007 Apple released the iPhone and in doing so changed society in ways Steve Jobs could only dream of. For better or worse, we are now consumed with the immediacy and convenience our iPhones have given us.  In April of this year, Apple is set to release the highly anticipated Apple Watch. Fashion, personal technology, and the drug of convenience will take the device to success levels smartwatches before it have yet to achieve.

First of all, there's the fashion statement. Over the last decade, Apple has become a superpower in the world of technology, and a fashion statement to young people worldwide. Deserved or not, Apple products are synonymous with cool. With the release of the Apple Watch however, this may be the first time Apple has fully embraced their “vogue” side and are marketing directly to the fashion world, starting with the November 2014 issue of Vogue China. In the inaugural fashion ad Supermodel Lie Wen wears an Apple Watch on the cover, and the device is referenced as “a pioneering piece of technology that also doubles as a highly covetable fashion accessory.” If they are right, and the fashion appeal of the Apple Watch catches on, this alone could drive the sales of the product, and Apple’s stock with it into the stratosphere.

Secondly, it has personal technology. The new Apple Watch will have convenience technologies, like recording our health and fitness data, step count, stairs count, heartbeat, etc. We’ll be able to see the weather forecast, incoming messages, and notifications. Wearing the Apple Watch, however will also give us some new tricks up our sleeves. The device will silently tap our wrist when we have calls or notifications, great for when we are in meetings or other quiet  environments. There’s also a method for sending small hand-drawn illustrations drawn directly on the face of the watch with your finger. You can even send your heartbeat, if you so desire, to friends or loved ones. I envision a whole new digital language being developed by teenagers. The clock offers a variety of faces, and combinations of features enabling the wearer to tailor the look of their watch exactly to their taste. According to Apple, the new Apple Watch is “our most personal device yet,” and in today’s world, it’s all about me, right?

Last but not least, the Apple Watch will have personal conveniences. We live in a “right now” mentality world where even one extra step, or a few extra seconds waiting for a webpage to load, can be a deal breaker. The iPhone ushered in an era of personal computing that enabled us to have access to information without our desktop computers. Today it is now possible to have an iPhone or an iPad as your only computer, negating the need for a desktop or laptop completely. Convenience and the desire for immediacy have moved to the top of the list in today’s priorities. The Apple Watch promises more convenience, new and fun ways to communicate, while at the same time being fashion forward. By today’s standards, what more could we ask for?

Personal technology devices like the iPhone have changed how we live our lives. The lack of modern technology and the popularity of the iPhone have caused wristwatches to fall out of style in recent years. Will the Apple Watch usher in the return of the wristwatch appeal, and the rise of wearable technology? Only time will tell. :) I'll definitely be getting one. How about you?
