For six generations Kenjiro Matayoshi's family has made silver jewellery in Okinawa, dating back to the Royal Court.

Matayoshi-san shapes pieces of silver today exactly as his father, grandfather and great grandfather did, using the same tools and process created and refined hundreds of years before him. Below are some of the images feature in Okinawa Living magazine.

A silver piece is heated with a blow torch to soften it for shaping.

After heating the silver it's then dipped in water to cool.

The silver is then slowly hammered to shape, heated, cooled, and hammered again until completed.
